Would you like to learn some simple Chinese?

Dear Friends,

I have been thinking to teach you Chinese for some time. Now I would like to make a simple survey, trying to identify your interest in Chinese, your goal for the possible 20-week learning process and also the best way to approach.

1. What do you want to learn?

(A) simple phrases and sentences for daily conversation, especially those most frequently used at airport, taking a taxi, shopping;
(B) some basic knowledge about Chinese pinyin, characters and grammar for possible future learning.

2. How much time you would like to spend each week?

America and China: It’s good to talk

Dec 15th 2006
From Economist.com

Discussions between China and America have produced warm feelings, but little movement on the question of the weak yuan

AFP
IN SEPTEMBER, Henry Paulson, America’s treasury secretary, emerged from a meeting with Wu Yi, the vice-premier who negotiated China’s entry into the World Trade Organisation, to announce that they had agreed that their respective governments would hold a twice-yearly economic dialogue. The news brought a little cheer to those hoping for more constructive relations between two of the most economically important countries in the world. It also gave a little—a very little—encouragement to those who hope that China will stop pushing down the value of its currency in order to subsidise exports.

To my respectecd classmates

Dear fellow classmates:

In the International Law class this afternoon, I rejected the notion to discuss Chinese government's restriction on Yahoo and Google. For the behavior itself, I would like to present my sincere regret. But for the case, I would like to make some brief explanation.
