Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
There was no need to wait one week to complete the first tour of elections of the class representative, since all the users of the website, who in fact make majority of MILE 7 students, have already voted. The results of the first tour can be found here: http://milestudents.com/node/104
Aziz and Manolo came to finish as the leaders of votes received, Aya, Liza and Wakako got per one vote. But I believe our ladies would get more votes if they deliberately wanted to be elected and run election compain as Aziz did :) Aziz was talking to people and convincing them to give theri votes to him. Well, it is his right. However, supporting Jenny's offer to necessarily asign one female represantative, I would like to ask everyone to seriously think about whom to give your votes and fairly share between two finalist gentlemen and two ladies.
Liza has told me she did not want to be elected and asked me to take her name from the list. So we have Wakako, Aya, Manolo and Aziz. And since not everyone closely knows our lady candidates and since their feminine and modest nature do not allow themselves to agressively impose their own candidacies, I would like to share with you my personal impression about Aya and Wakaka. Both of our ladies have all the required characteristic features to be our team leaders. So please do not give all the votes to Aziz and Manolo. Sorry guys for anti-advertisement :)
Aya Khalaf
Wakaka Takatori
Manolo Delgado
Azizjon Nazarov

Dear All,
For the voting campain, I agree with Aziz's suggestion that we need two class cepresentatives, one of whom, I suggest, is a vice one. I think the vice Class Representative (CR) should be responsible for the CR and to support the CR. Furtherly, may I suggest that we should provide one position of the two CRs for a female Milemate so that she could represent our girls' interests when organizing the social activities?

I have temporarily made this poll homepage untill we finally elect our honorable CRs. Everyone is welcome not just to vote, but also to give your suggestions, express critisism, share with your opinion on how we could organize it better way, etc.
thank you very much, Ulan, for your effort to measure the public opinion on who should become the MILE 7 student representative.
I think the results are quite interesting and add some spice to any actual election. Without offence, however, if anyone seriously wants to take these results as the basis of a democratic election, I will certify her or him to hold a somehow very weird view on what democracy actually is:
In the mentioned poll, only 22 students (of actual 33!) were able to vote. The same accounts for the right to be voted for. Thus we would have simply excluded 1/3 of our fellow classmates of the opportunity to vote or to be elected. Moreover, among the 22, those who voted late, were able to significantly manipulate the result by making biased decisions, since they actually voted for those who were already voted for earlier by others. In other words, they held more information concerning the results than those who voted earlier and were able to make a more tactical decision
In my view, a direct, free, equal and secret election in small, democratically organised groups is conducted as following:
1. Every MILE student has one vote and the right to suggest candidates.
2.In an open forum, potential candidates for the representative position are suggested by others or themselves. The persons named may accept or not accept canditature.
3.Those who accept the candidature are voted on in secrecy (e.g. by writing the respective name on a piece of paper and folding it). The votes are collected and counted by someone who has by consensus been appointed to administrate the election.
4.The candidate unifying most votes on her or his person is elected to be the representative.
5.In case a vice representative shall be elected - as agreed upon by consensus among all students - the procedure is repeated, including necessary suggestions for candidates for that position.
I am happy to go through this procedure with you guys and the other MILE students, who do not receive this email because they have not registered on the MILE 7 homepage. I believe, if we simply spare a half hour of our lunch break for this procedure (let s say this Wednesday), we should be able to get a legitimate and good representative.
Best regards,
David

David, thank you for your comprehensive analysis. Indeed online voting as such can not claim to be perfect and has lots of disadvantages. For example, it was several times announced about this website among all MILE 7 students by Liza via WTI mailing system, by Manolo to all the gathered by himslef e-mails and we also asked some students in person to get themselves registered. But in the end we of course can not make everyone to register against their will. So I thought some of us just wanted to stay aside from participating in the class activities and respecting their rights did not want to disturb them by repeating requests.
However, I have to totally agree that the method proposed by you would be much more democratic and am also happy to go through it. Meanwhile, I would claim that four finalists of online voting are good candidates for CRs and I guess we will end up having them as candidates in realtime procedures too. Because, before following to James' idea of performing online voting I have probed opinions of different MILE students and many did not want to run at all, but Manolo did not mind, Aziz wanted and I hope Aya and Wakaka also don't mind.
Anyway, let's do whatever necessary to do it RIGHT WAY, so that as David put we all have legitimate rep. Indeed for some of us the results of online voting will not represent legitimacy and we should avoid that kind of situation.
I would like to agree with Smilie David .I think that despite the effords of
Ulan and the rest who work(really) hard for our website, it is not the
appropriate way do for the representative election.I think that as David
recomended we should all give up a few minutes from our break to go through
this procedure.I will be happy to help with any elections procedure in order
to be held in a more democratic way.

Guys, I think we should have the elections tomorrow and forget about it P.S. Oh yeah and start bugging the representatative with all the ideas we have )
I was peacefully reading Mankiw and was peacefully going to bed but ok, I will take part in your long and enthousiastic debate about these elections.
I have to agree with David (but thank you Ulan anyway). I don't mind being in the final list of candidates; on the contrary, it would be my pleasure. But seriously, to whomever gave me that lonely one vote, I don't know if I should thank you or ...! Just kidding: Thank you and Good night.

Hello, guys!
If I have two votes, I will give one to Aya, for I believe she will surely help us with her best. She has shown her sincere willingness to teach us French, which is selfless and deserve our heartful respects and praises.
Anyway, please accept my best wishes for the successful election. I believe, no matter who will win out finally, he/she will do his/her best to maintain and gain our interests!
Lets do it that way then on wednesday, so tomorrow.

Ok, Ladies and Gentlemen, we are closing this poll since instead of online voting we will have real election. For details read David's comment (6 messages up).
As for two tours of our online polls we can consider them as our first experiment, test of possibility of running online polls as such, that can be used for other future purposes. At least, we have defined finalists, who I am pretty sure will be candidates in real elections as well. Probably, we should also offer a candidacy of David himself since he sounds to be interested
